Joint Israeli-Palestinian Children Summer Camp in Italy

The Italian Red Cross (ItRC) Society has invited a joint Israeli-Palestinian children delegation to take part in a summer camp, taking place in Rome during 1-15.7.2007.
The delegation consists of 10 boys and girls, aged 12-13 (five children from MDA and five from Palestinian Maher Center for Children), as well as their parents, have met in Tel-Aviv prior to the delegation departure to Italy on July 1st.

The two-week summer camp is the initiation of the Italian Red Cross, aiming to bring together Israeli and Palestinian children, to participate in a joint program that promotes dialogue and education for peace.

While their stay in Rome, the ItRC volunteers will guide the children and will allow them explore the 7 principles of the Red Cross movement. The teaching, during which two days will be dedicated to each principle, will include games, sport and water activities. In the evenings, the children have the opportunity to meet and exchange ideas. The whole program will be supervised by Italian social workers and psychologists, volunteers of the ItRC.

While not studying, the program includes tours to various cultural and historical Roman sites. The children tour the Vatican state, the big Mosque in Rome and the big Synagogue.

MDA would like to take this opportunity to express its thanks to the Italian Red Cross Society for its support by initiating this program.
