The Chairman of MDA's Executive committee, Dr. Noam Yifrach, was pleased to welcome Mr. Takis Neofitou - Cyprus Red Cross Director General, in his first visit in MDA. The visit, which took place on 1-4 September, 2007, aimed to be an official opportunity for the encounter between the two national societies, the Cypriot NS - which still does not enjoy the full membership in the Red Cross movement, and MDA - a new member in the Red Cross. The two national societies discussed mutual cooperation in the Mediterranean forum.
While visiting in MDA, Mr. Neophytou was introduced with the organization's ambulances and activities. Accordingly, he visited in an MDA station in Tel-Aviv and learned about the MDA operations. There he also met with Avi Horn, concerning the fire breaking out in Greece last month, prior to his visit in Israel that hurt more than hundred small villages in the south. Avi, a paramedic in MDA is also a water technician, and the two discussed possible options to support the Greek villages. The first part of the day was followed by a tour at MDA Blood Services, when he was highly impressed with the advanced technology and the high-qualified team. In addition, Mr. Neophytou learned about MDA's youth activities, when visited the youth exchange taking place in the north of Israel in parallel. There he was introduced to MDA youth volunteers as well as to volunteers from 13 different countries, who arrived in Israel a week before, aiming to learn about global climate change. Mr. Neophytou emphasized the high importance of cooperation between the Mediterranean national societies, and specifically between Cyprus RC and MDA. Dr. Noam Yifrach, Chairman of MDA Executive Committee is expected to pay a visit in Cyprus Red Cross Society next month, to strengthen the relations of the two national societies.
