Every year on Independence Day, children and youth rush to buy spray foam and spray snow, which goes well with the hammers, and every year, MDA teams who stand by at all the entertainment stages, are forced to deal with the severe results and to transport tens of children and youngsters suffering from eye injuries from the sprays which contain dangerous substances. A reminder from last year - over 20 children were transported to hospitals with eye injuries, on their lids or corneas, as a result of snow spray that was directed at them.
The following are suggestions from MDA to parents, in order that they should make the children aware of the considerable danger involved in using any of the sprays:-
If they buy a "snow" spray or "string" sprays, instruct the children not to direct the opening of the containing anywhere near their own head, mouth or eyes or those of their friends. If in spite of this the chemical substances go into someone's eyes, immediately wash the eyes with a lot of water.
Remember! The spray is a very flammable substance! Remove it from any source of fire and strictly forbid them to spray it onto an open fire. Do not throw the empty containers into a fire for fear of them catching alight and exploding.
Take care not to put fireworks near the face, and especially the eyes. In case of a spark of fire entering the eye, wash it quickly with a lot of water, and take the injured person to the nearest medical facility.
