MAGEN DAVID ADOM - GIVING FIRST AID TO
THE WATER RESOURCES IN ISRAEL

17-06-08 , 16:18

Magen David Adom in Israel, in its status as the national emergency organization of the State, sees itself as duty bound to also preserve its treasures of nature and not only the people living in the State.  MDA teams are requested to take greater care in maintaining a high level of hygiene and sanitation in the ambulances, a situation which demands the use of large quantities of water to clean and sterilize the ambulances, and today alternative solutions are being looked into.

Until then, MDA Director General, Eli Bin, knowing full well the problems involved with water, has ordered the Regional Directors to put saving devices on the taps used for other purposes, such as drinking, showers, toilets, and cleaning buildings etc.

During the last few days, special devices for saving water have been fitted in all 109 MDA stations around the country.  This important project will ensure a saving of about 40% on average of the total water consumption of the organization.  This important step was taken in the hope that other large organizations will follow in MDA's footsteps.

The devices which were bought and fitted by MDA personnel are from the Israeli "Magic Tek" company and were chosen both for their quality and for the fact that they are made in Israel, together with voluntary organizations that work with rehabilitation projects.  The "Magic Tek" company, known for their high social conscience, subsidized the cost of the saving devices for Magen David Adom, in recognition of its importance and contribution to Israeli Society, and because of the large number bought by the organization, thus enabling it to fit them all over the country.

MDA, as an organization whose workers work around the clock, on Saturdays and Festivals, sometimes doing long shifts without a break, uses a lot of water for different essential purposes.  There is no doubt that by fixing these devices in all MDA buildings - stations and sub stations - spread out along the length and breadth of the country, will drastically reduce the amount of water used by the organization and will help in a small way maintain the water reserves of Israel that are slowly getting smaller
