MDA WORKERS SUPPORT DIRECTOR GENERAL

19-07-10 , 10:43

Hundreds of Magen David Adom workers from all over the country gathered together at midday today (July 7, 2010), in Tel Aviv, at a rally in support of the MDA Directorate and its Director General, Eli Bin.  The Rally was organised by the MDA workers union.

Workers committee Chairman, Ozer Leifer, said that MDA workers could no longer abide the wild, unbridled attacks being aired by the media.

"MDA workers have reached a stage where it is no longer possible to remain silent and to restrain themselves concerning the way the media is coming down on MDA with the intention of totally destroying the organization," he said. "MDA is our home and its strength is measured by our unity.  We will not allow any journalist to destroy or harm the good name of the thousands of MDA workers and volunteers who work day and night, at all hours, saving the lives of the citizens of this country. We've had enough of these tendentious and false articles".

Treasurer of the Workers' Committee, Eran Ben Chorin, in opening the rally, said angrily, "You have all certainly noticed that in the attacks on MDA the arrows are aimed against one person, but the truth is that their aim is, in fact, aimed against all MDA workers who daily risk their lives and endanger themselves saving the lives of Israel's citizens - both in routine work and in times of emergency."

During the rally, speeches were given by Professor Yehuda Skornik, President of MDA, and Dr. Noam Yifrach, Chairman of the Executive Committee.

"Israel seems to be the only place in the world where an organisation that is responsible for saving lives, and which is one of the best and most professional emergency services in the world, has to endure mud slinging by the press," said Professor Skornik. "The spontaneous organisation of a rally of support by hundreds of MDA workers for the directorate of the organisation proves the dedication and mutual good feelings these workers feel for Magen David Adom."

Dr. Noam Yifrach gave the workers an overview of events and said, amongst other things, "The rally today proves, once again, that mutual good feelings and support exist between the MDA workers and volunteers and all the citizens of the State of Israel.  Every day, we feel the support of the public for MDA personnel and the sigh of relief when MDA teams arrive on the scene to help patients and those injured.  Even the State Comptroller showered praises on the work of MDA and wrote a recommendation praising the activities of the MDA teams".

Dr. Yifrach also pointed out that "MDA is a professional organisation, run in an outstanding manner, from the Director General down to the workers and volunteers.  We will do everything to keep it that way"
