Thirty six drivers and dispatch centre officers from all MDA regions underwent three-days' training in the use of the new command centre vehicles designed to improve MDA efficiency in the field.

The new command centre vehicle was especially built to the needs of MDA. It is the result of planning and development by MDA's Special Projects division. These vehicles can be located anywhere and can be used as an independent dispatch centre allowing for the control of MDA personnel in the field, assisting them to reach victims as quickly as possible in order to administer treatment.

When the command centre vehicle is placed in position, four stabilizers (two at the front and two at the back) are activated. It then raises a fifteen metre pole which has at its base a camera and an antenn. There is also a lighting pole which enables the team in the command centre vehicle to illuminate an area in any direction. The command centre vehicle is equipped with special systems which enable MDA teams to work freely in the field and to make use of the most advanced technology - even in the most difficult and complex of situations.

Command centre vehicles already operate in the Carmel, Jerusalem and Dan MDA Regions.
During the last training session, the students learned all about the command centre vehicle, its capabilities and the special systems with which it is fitted. They received practical tuition in driving this vehicle which requires experience and professionalism.
MDA's National Road Safety Officer, Bezalel Avraham, said, "In MDA, we place great stress on safe driving andon the correct use of MDA's vehicle. They need to be used in the most efficient manner possible in order to save lives. Safe and correct driving will ensure success in the jobs that the MDA teams carry out".

The course involved driving in situations and places which require a high degree of expertise, such as narrow thoroughfares (such as city centres), seafronts, variable road surfaces and also on a training field which was built especially for the purpose of this course. According to MDA Director-General, Eli Bin, "This special course will improve MDA's efficiency ten-fold in complex situations. The efficiency of the command centre vehicle was shown for the first time when MDA personnel forces were present at the funeral of Rabbi Finkel in Jerusalem. There is no doubt that the value of these command centre vehicles is tremendous and adds to the capabilities of the teams in the field in saving lives".
