On June 21th, a Magen David Adom delegation arrived in Solferino, Italy, for the "Battle of Solferino" ceremony followed by a festive parade. This year is the 149th anniversary of the Solferino battle between Austrian and French armies which took place at the cite in the 19th century, an event that marks the birth of the Red Cross and Red Crescent International Movement.
The MDA delegates are all seasoned volunteers in the organization and were sent to the "Battle of Solferino" anniversary as representatives of Magen David Adom in Israel, a full member in the Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement.
"The ceremony, which was attended by officials from the French and Italian governments, opened with a brass band parade, and unfurling of flags of Italy, France, the EU and, of course, the flag of The Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement. Then, the participants proceeded to a local church, for celebratory Mass.
The ceremony concluded with a banquet, where we were the guests of the Mayor of Solferino", says the delegation spokesman.
The MDA delegates enjoy a very warm reception and solidarity with other groups that take part in the event.
