MDA activities in Haiti
In January 2010, following the horrendous earthquake in Haiti, MDA launched a broad aid program, mobilizing resources and professionals to the affected area. Over 2 million people were affected by the earthquake.
As part of the immediate response, medical and logistic support teams were sent, providing urgent care to thousands injured in the field hospitals.

Situation In Haiti - Security Briefing
Damage is reported to be most severe in Port-au-Prince. Several buildings, including the HQ of the UN peacekeeping mission (previously the Christopher Hotel), located on the road from the city to the suburb of Petionville, have been destroyed. Several bodies were pulled from the wreckage of the UN HQ and over 100 UN staff members are still missing.

Earthquake in Haiti - January 17 2010 Factsheet
APPEAL: IFRC is now calling for 105.7 million Swiss francs (103 million US dollars/73 million euro) to assist the relief and recovery needs of 300,000 people (60,000 families) for three years. This appeal is based on assessment of 3 million people affected.
The appeal is currently 25 per cent covered, including financial and in-kind donations. This number does not yet reflect funds raised directly by National Societies.

Earthquake in Haiti - January 18 2010 News Release
The Red Cross Red Crescent response to last week's devastating Haitian earthquake continues to grow, with more and more supplies, infrastructure and aid workers arriving each day.
More than 400 Red Cross and Red Crescent staff have arrived in Port-au-Prince since the earthquake, with an estimated 180 of these from Caribbean and Central and South American National Red Cross Societies.

Earthquake in Haiti January 19th 2010 News Release
The leaders of the world's largest humanitarian organization are on their way to earthquake-devastated Haiti as part of a massive disaster response and recovery operation.
International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) President Tadateru Konoé and Secretary General Bekele Geleta will arrive in Port-au-Prince today (19 January) to lead what is shaping up as one of the IFRC's largest and most complex operations in recent memory.

ICRC Bulletin # 10, January 22nd 2010
While the more affluent are leaving Port-au-Prince for the countryside, hundreds of thousands are camping out in squares, sports fields and other open areas transformed into makeshift camps. Yesterday, some 3,000 camp-dwellers in Primatur received much needed aid.
